First dates can be a little awkward, especially if it is the first time you are meeting someone in person. Here are some dating tips for women that can help to make the dating experience a little bit easier.

  1. Men have little patience with insecure women. If you tend to feel insecure about your weight, your looks, your hair and related matters, avoid the tempation to reveal this fact to your date whether directly or indirectly. Seeking reassurance or validation by asking someone else if they think you look okay only tells them that you have no confidence in yourself. A self-confident woman does not require the approval of others.
  2. Dress comfortably. A pet peeve according a group of men polled is a woman who is constantly fidgeting with some part of her attire that won't behave the way she wants it to or won't sit right. This includes women who wear shoes that are too small or in some other way uncomfortable and have to spend most of the occasion in obvious discomfort.
  3. Whatever you do, don't tell your date you're having your period. In all fairness, not all men are comfortable with this subject; and it's just not appropriate for you to throw this information out while on a date. If things get to the point where the date could advance to sexual activity then you might find a delicate way to broach that subject. Otherwise the fact that you're menstruating is of no consequence and should not be brought up even and especially not to put to the test a man's ability to talk with you about anything.
  4. If you ask a man out on a date, be clear in stating whether you intend on paying for the date, whether you expect him to pay for the date, or whether you expect each of you to cover your own expenses. Usually the one who does the asking out is responsible for planning the date and paying for it unless the agreement is that you'll both take care of yourselves. So if you make the first move, it's not expected that the guy will pay for the date because he's the guy. Don't make assumptions about how the date is going to be paid for. Discuss it in advance.
  5. Don't monopolize the conversation and use the air time to talk on and on about your job, your girlfriends, your old boyfriends, your cramps, your kitty, your puppy, your brother in rehab, your crazy mother, your deceased father, the fact that you're on anti-depressants, Oprah, your favorite soap, how you hate Victoria's Secret models, how your friends say you look a little bit like Jennifer Anniston, how you are badly in need of a pedicure.... You get the gist!
  6. Don't go overboard trying to prove you're not one of those women. You know the ones. The ones who won't eat a bite of food in front of their date because they "don't usually eat".... The average man finds a woman who wolfs down three hamburgers just as disturbing as the one who won't eat a bit of lettuce.

The 2010 Paralympics games from Vancouver begin today. The games, or at least some of the games, will be carried on NBC/USA networks here in the US. I have setup a Facebook page for the Paralympics Curling team that can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=287937868809...
